How to Mix ResinObsession SuperClear Resin:
ResinObsession SuperClear resin is a 2 to 1 mix ratio. Be as exact as possible when measuring resin.
To protect your work surface cover it with freezer paper, plastic page protector or a plastic bag. Work on a level surface.
ResinObsession SuperClear resin is a very gentle resin that is almost odor free and non-irritating. If you work with resin often you will want to protect yourself by wearing gloves, eye goggles and fumes mask. People who are sensitive will also want to protect themselves. Have some baby wipes handy for removing any resin from your skin.
1. Resin does best at certain temperatures so you may want to warm the resin slightly. If Super Clear resin feels cold to touch you will need to warm it up just enough that it doesn’t feel cold. This can be done by placing both bottles of resin in a Hot Box or in a bowl of warm water. Be careful with water tho as resin does not like moisture. Don’t get it too hot, the resin will set up too fast if you do. The thinner the consistency the less bubbles you will have.
2. Spray your mold with Mold Release so it has time to dry before pouring the resin in the mold.
3. To make it easier to see the measurement lines on the cups, mark them with a permanent marker. SuperClear resin is a 2 to 1 mix ratio so if you measure 1 ounce of the hardener you will need 2 ounces of the resin.
4. SuperClear comes with squeeze bottle tops that need the tips cut off. Scissors will do the job. Save the little red caps for closing up the tip.
5. Squeeze enough of the hardener (“B” side) to the first fill line you marked on your measure cup. Make sure you are exact with the measurement. Do the same for the resin (“A” side). If adding color, pour “A” side first.
6. Very gently mix the resin with ResinObsession Stir Stix in a folding motion until resin is well mixed. Try not to add more bubbles to the mix by stirring too fast. (Did you know a wood stir stick holds moisture and will cause bubbles?) If you see areas that look like Angel Hairs then it is not completely mixed. It will also be a little cloudy if you haven’t mixed it well enough.
7. Now it’s time to pour. To control your pour squeeze the mixing cup almost closed so you can pour a drop at a time if you want. Take your time. An alternate way to pour is to pour over your Stir Stix. This helps to break up any bubbles.
8. Clean Stir Stix with a soft cloth while the resin is still wet. Another option is to use a little acetone on a soft cloth.
9. You can use a needle, straight pin or toothpick to move the resin to the edges, place embedments and to pop stubborn bubbles.
10. By not over pouring in the mold, you will eliminate some of the sanding needed to finish the casting.
11. ResinObsession SuperClear Resin has been formulated to be as bubble free as possible. If it needs help releasing the bubbles you can carefully pop the bubbles with a pin or toothpick.
12. Castings can cure at room temperature for about 6 to 8 hours. To speed up the process, place casting in a Hot Box or under a low watt light bulb. Casting will cure in about 1 hour at 115°F.
13. Cover your project with a cup or container so dust won’t contaminate your casting. Discard non reusable items.
14. Resins shrink and will leave a “valley” or dip in the casting as it cures. You can pour a tiny amount of resin to fill this dip. This is one way to avoid so much sanding of those sharp little edges that appear once the casting has been removed from the mold.
15. SuperClear resin dries rock hard and can be drilled, sanded, polished and buffed.
Easy 2 to 1 reference
1 part hardener to 2 part resin
2 part hardener to 4 part resin
3 part hardener to 6 part resin
4 part hardener to 8 part resin
5 part hardener to 10 part resin
How-to Dome SuperClear Resin:
1. Carefully pour resin over item. You can squeeze the small mixing cup almost closed. This way you can control by pouring the resin a drop at a time.
2. Apply just enough resin so the resin will hold an edge. One too many drops and it may overflow.
